First-time author and artist Cain treads familiar ground here with a picture book that pales in comparison to Jamie Lee Curtis's subtler and snappier Today I Feel Silly. From scared to shy, bored to jealous, Cain covers the emotional waterfront in a series of rhymes paired with pastel pencil drawings featuring elflike children. The opening spread, "silly" ("Silly is the way I feel when I make a funny face/ and wear a goofy, poofy hat that takes up lots of space"), casts a child in a rainbow-colored clown outfit against a sunny yellow backdrop and heralds the book's main artistic conceitAa palette picked to suit each mood. "Bored," for instance, is played out on a background of drab tans and browns, while "angry" steams with fiery reds and purples. Though energetic and bright, the cartoonlike illustrations skate close to being strident, while the verses are pedestrian ("Sometimes I feel so very sad and really don't know why./ Instead of playing and having fun, I cry and cry and cry"). So good

This is one of my son and I's favorite books! I love that it teaches emotions in an easy-to-understand way with amazing illustrations and fun rhymes. The board book has an emotion or two less than the regular book (jealousy is missing, I know for sure) but it's worth it so my 2 year old can't rip the pages :)

Opens communication between parent & child!

Excellent book for 3 year old trying to understand feelings. This book gives examples as well as opens up discussion between parent and child. My son was having a really hard time expressing his feelings verbally, as i feel a lot of youngsters do not know how to recognize what those feelings are. My son would instead throw tantrums because he couldn't recognize or verbalize those complex feelings such as sibling jealousy, frustration etc . We now read this book daily & I encourage him to speak how he is feeling using familiar feelings he has learned from this book. I highly recommend it.

I was pretty happy when I found this book online

My 5 year old just started kindergarten and was having trouble expressing his feelings...so he would get mad and hit instead. I was pretty happy when I found this book online. I figured it was worth a try! My son LOVES this book! We read it all the time. He asks me to read it to him numerous times in a row. I have noticed improvement in his behavior at school and him being able to express what he is feeling instead of getting angry. Very happy with this book!
