Excellent, helpful read.

I really enjoyed reading this book. The right length and easy to comprehend. I have read and continue to read many golf related books. For the most part I get a little something from each one. This book provided a lot of good information and drills to enforce the information and learning. You may not find any earth shattering information, but you will find solid, common sense information presented in an easy to digest manner.

More importantly, I can't imagine someone who has issues swinging over the top or has difficulty trying to swing from the inside, not getting great information and the drills to help them overcome these issues from this book. I really enjoyed it.

good, quick read

Focuses on the area most hackers are all too familiar with, the over the top downswing move. The book can be read in an hour or less and gives the reader multiple drills to groove a downswing coming from the inside. It was refreshing to see a golf author go away from the themes of traditional instructional literature, those being things like grip, alignment, etc. Too many different styles of grip and alignment on tour for them to be a true fundamentals.

This book will definitely help the average golfer.

The "Slot Swing" for Dummies

If you really want to understand the concept of a golf swing that is steep (vertical) on the backswing and shallow (flat) on the downswing, read Jim McLean's book "The Slot Swing". For a few extra dollars you get a lot more insight into how and why this swing concept works. One problem I have with this series of "1 Step to Better..." Golf books is the author seems to be confusing cause and effect in the golf swing. For example: the author says that if you have a steep/shallow swing pattern, then you must also be doing everything else correctly. As McLean points out, however, it's possible to perform what looks like a correct steep/shallow swing using incorrect body movements. Why does that matter? Distance, Accuracy, and Injury Prevention to name a few concerns.

The Rocker Who Ditches Me

While I’m a big fan of Terri Anne Browning and her Rocker series, I’m not a big fan of Second Chance Decades Later romance. So, the 3 star rating has more to do with my personal tastes as a reader than anything else.
This book was well-written and anyone who likes very emotional second chance romance will love this book, so I recommend it for those readers.

In this book, the separation of the hero and heroine lasted 17 years and it felt really unnecessary. I realize that the timeline had to work out that way for Zander to get his own book and it to be with a heroine who was his first love.
And in all the flashbacks showing them as teenagers together, they were really sweet. I felt their love for each other.

SPOILER ALERT!!!

Then Zander just sort of decided he wasn’t good enough for her and gave up on their love. He did it coldly while feeling sorry for himself more than he felt sorry for her.

Years pass and they actually both are involved in the music world. In fact, she does PR for her famous country musician brother and other musicians. So for a lot of years she could have gotten a hold of him and her big excuse for not doing so was kind of lame.
Don’t misunderstand me with this review. I love this author and her books, but I really wasn’t buying all the excuses Zander and Annabelle had for the 17 years apart.

As for their reconciliation, I think it was too easy. 17 years of hurt built up would be something volatile in the heroine. She loved him that entire time and was all alone except for a few family members.
My only excuse for Zander was that they were young and hadn’t been an official couple for very long when he left her in the dust.
However, he also kind of said that at the time he was choosing between her and his rock star career. And the music, fame and fortune won.

Is this the last Rocker series book? I’m not sure. There’s a gigantic cast of characters at this point and I’m thinking there might be one or two stray single people left. If so, I look forward to the next book, but I also read Browning’s other series, so I’ll read a new book from any of those series, too.

For those who have read the series and had any questions about Zander this book will answer all of them. It starts out picking up where book 10 left off while you don't have to read the books before to under the story of Annabelle and Zander there is a lot of secondary characters that have already had there story told. The author takes you back to the beginning of of our couple when Anna was 16 almost 17 and Z was almost 19. Anna''s brother is the singer for OtherWorld and Zander plays bass. It's young love at its finest and the author takes the time to give you the full backstory. Fastfoward 17 years and they meet again. Zander has a lot to apologize for and Anna has a lot to forgive. I don't want to give anything away but make sure tissues are handy. If you want a love story spanning 17 years full of young love and heartbreaking sadness this book is for you.

Normally TAB is a 5star read for me.... but i couldn't give 5stars to this book. The whole reason he left her, to me, was the stupidest thing ever. Once i learned of his reasons i found myself skipping. once i got over that huge time gap, the daughter he never knew, etc, i did enjoy the book. Maybe it's just me, but I'm sort of glad the series is almost over, love it i do, but i think it's time.

More than just the basics

Reading the other reviews I felt it was important to offer another perspective. While I haven't given public speeches, when it comes to my own body I'm an expert. I've spent more time with it than anyone else and over the years have learned quite a few things that I'm sorry to say I don't have techical terms for. Just what I know.

This book and "The ESO Ecstasy Program" (the first book I read when it first came out), might give certain impressions to a casual reader. But the working beauty of this program is when it is put into practice.

And I don't mean towel exercises. To limit these books that way is like saying diet pills work or don't work. Only a comprehensive diet and exercise program with monitoring by a health professional (like your Doctor) can do that. This is the same thing to me. The book (a professional on paper) is nothing without practicing the art itself.

I found the book focused more on communication techniques (lacking in most relationships - talking about our inner thoughts and understanding them doesn't come naturally for everyone) than exercises but putting those into practice with communication and time produces results.

Not fanciful results either. The descriptions of what is possible in the books comes from years of practice between the two authors. While it's possible to follow the program and see outstanding results in 30 days (the new editions timeframe, the original book it was 90) as well.

I always recommend this book along with "The Lover Within" by Julie Henderson, for anyone in a long term relationship that wants everything possible from it - not just what you see and hear about on TV.

As a tool for taking that next step in intimacy I've not found a better resource. It's not for the casual reader, nor have I found much success sharing with short term partners.

Good stuff. Just because it sounds amazing doesn't mean it's not. :)

About As Good As It Gets.

I haven't read this in many years and the data are more than 35 years old, but I've done some research on regional differences in attitudes towards education and Gastil's book was not only an immensely valuable guide but a comprehensive and enlightening view of cultural regions of the United States. I read the whole thing, happily, not just the parts that helped me in my own work.

He not only summarizes the extant literature but describes some of his own work on homicide, religion, and geography. I won't describe the results here, for fear of offending some readers, but they're a little startling and therefore controversial.

It's a little dated. It was probably a little dated in 1975 too. The map of the distribution of dialects is based on research done in the post-war period. Language was changing rapidly at the time and is evolving at least as rapidly now. Some later work (eg., Labov's) suggests that regional accents are going to disappear altogether and be replaced by what might be called Network English, an amalgam of Southern and Valley Girl speech in which, for instance, "baboon" turns into "babewn." Anyone interested in regional dialects should certainly also check out "The Dictionary of American Regional English," a jumbo piece of work in four volumes (so far).

I'm not so sure about some of Gastil's conclusions. I don't know why he isolates Rhode Island from the rest of New England, for example. Okay, Rhode Island had a distinctive history but how is that reflected in the state's current culture? And Gastil (and everyone else) doesn't have a grasp of what was, and perhaps still is, going on in southern Utah linguistically. Talk about distinctive accents! "Art" is "ort."

It's one of those scholarly works that is at the same time an easy read. In the wake of mass movements to the Sun Belt, it would be interesting if someone were to produce an updated version of a book like this. It would of course need to be revised every few years.

Cultural Regions of the United States

A little long and slightly out of date for 2013, this book gives you the ethnic and the cultural backgounds of the different areas of the United States. Very factual, it explains the reasons people from different areas of the country act and think like they do. Insightful reading, especially if you have lived in these different areas. This tends to be forgotten information that is actually still quite relevantin your understanding of the cultural make-up of the United States.
